Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal 60 FPS Update Is Coming on January 21st

Ubisoft confirms Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal are getting free 60 FPS upgrades on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on January 21.

Ubisoft has announced that three beloved Far Cry titles are finally receiving their much-overdue 60 FPS upgrades on current-generation consoles. Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal will all be updated to run at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing smoother gameplay to some of the franchise’s most iconic entries.

 

Three Far Cry Titles Are Getting 60FPS Upgrades This Month

Ubisoft first teased the news through the official Far Cry X account, posting a series of emojis. While it didn’t explicitly say what was coming, fans quickly connected the dots and it didn’t take long for Ubisoft to confirm with a follow-up post.

The publisher officially announced that Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal will all receive 60 FPS upgrades on January 21 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This update will be available for free. If you have a physical copy, just update the game and you’ll get the upgrade too.

With this update, nearly every mainline Far Cry game from Far Cry 3 onward will now run at 60 FPS on current consoles. The update applies to Far Cry 3 Classic Edition on PS4 and Xbox One which will benefit from higher frame rates when played via backward compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Interestingly, the Xbox 360 version of Far Cry 3 already runs at 60 FPS on Xbox Series consoles so it’s really the Xbox One owners that are especially happy to see the Classic Edition finally catch up.

   

Far Cry 3, released in 2012, is widely considered one of the best entries in the franchise. Set on the Rook Islands, it introduced the modern Far Cry formula and delivered one of gaming’s most memorable villains in Vaas Montenegro.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which launched in 2013, is a standalone expansion that leans fully into retro-futuristic ‘80s action. Its over-the-top tone, synth soundtrack, and laser-firing dragons made it an instant cult classic.

Far Cry Primal, released in 2016, took the series in a new direction by setting the game in the Stone Age. With no guns and a focus on survival, crafting, and animal companions, Primal remains one of the franchise’s most unique experiments.

It’s exciting to see Ubisoft continuing to roll out 60 FPS updates for its older titles. Now, when are the 60 FPS upgrades for Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2?
