Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is the new chapter in the famous and historic hack & slash series from SEGA. A series that started in 1987, putting us in the shoes of the ninja Joe Musashi in the classic series. Mainly fighting the forces of the criminal ninja clan Zeed. Following the jump to 3D in 2002 with the title on PS2 and Nightshade in 2003 with two new protagonists.
With Art of Vengeance marking the return to the 2D style with an action sidescroller as a Reboot after more than 13 years since the last title. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – Don’t miss the Demo of the first Level
Just one month from launch and with the start of August, the team at SEGA brings some fantastic news dedicated to Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Revealing by surprise the Demo of the new reboot chapter of the famous Ninja-based sidescroller hack & slash series. The demo is available from July 31, 2025, just in time for the weekend on major platforms.
All accompanied by a dedicated trailer. Where we’ll return to the shoes of the iconic ninja Joe Musashi with a 2D action game with a strong visual style. Taking on the first stage of the Oboro Village, trying out ninja abilities and facing various enemies. Including a secret trial and the Arcade Mode with a scoring system.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – What this Reboot Offers
Art of Vengeance is therefore proposed as a new reboot of the historic SEGA series. Entrusted , however, to the Lizardcube team, behind the remake of Wonder Boy III in 2017 and Street of Rage 4 in 2020. Thus offering:
- Story: Return as the shinobi Joe Musashi, on a mission of vengeance. Getting revenge on those who burned his village. In a mission full of action and dangers awaiting us.
- Gameplay: Making use of Joe’s Ninja abilities with endless combos. As well as powerful Amulets and useful Ninja Tools to overcome obstacles and take down enemies. Not to forget the classic arsenal of Kunai, Katanas and Ninjitsu and Ninpo Arts.
All accompanied by an animated graphic style in 2D with brushstrokes. And a more action-oriented gameplay making it closer to the classic Metroidvania experience. Offering secrets and shortcuts but with the classic stage-based approach. With the Lizardcube team leaving us with some details on the game’s creation.
