Shenmue III is the third installment in the action-adventure series from the YS Net team, originally published by Deep Silver. The development team is led by Yu Suzuki, from whom the initials come, a renowned figure at SEGA, before he founded his independent studio in 2008. SEGA launched the remasters of the first 2 chapters in 2018, while Suzuki’s team delivered the third new installment in 2019 (2020 on Steam).
After a presentation at E3 2015 and a Kickstarter campaign, it brought a well-received sequel more than 18 years after the second chapter. But it was also criticized for some changes to the story and gameplay, although it did spark hope for a fourth chapter. Shenmue III Enhanced: Upgraded Version Announced at Gamescom 2025
In a surprise news drop just hours before Gamescom, the team at ININ Games and YS Net reveals Shenmue III Enhanced. An upgraded version of the third chapter in the action-adventure series about the young Ryo Hazuki. Revealed on 18 August 2025, the arrival of this edition will be fully unveiled directly at Gamescom 2025.
A pleasant surprise for big fans of the series, who can now relive the third chapter with a visually enhanced version. But also with some quality-of-life improvements and finally available on the latest generations, including PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. And a confirmation of its arrival on an unspecified “Nintendo Switch“, but it’s very likely on the NS2.

Shenmue III Enhanced – What’s New?
It’s worth noting that the rights to Shenmue III are now held by the German publisher ININ Games. The rights were transferred from Deep Silver in November 2024. This makes the announcement on 18 August the latest news on the Shenmue front. This edition mainly brings:
- Improved Graphics and Performance: Featuring new textures and details with support for up to 4K resolutions. Also includes FSR and DLSS support, faster loading times, and higher NPC density.
- Classic Camera and Gameplay Tweaks: A camera mode inspired by the first two games, plus numerous tweaks to the stamina system, pre-fight healing, and money limit.
- Interaction and Menu: You can now skip cutscenes and Quick Time Events are less restrictive, plus a more polished UI. You’ll have the freedom to toggle the new options on or off as you wish.
An Enhanced edition mainly aimed at next-gen consoles. The ININ Games team confirms an upgrade path for both the PS4 version and the PC version, and they will reveal more details at Gamescom.
