Vantage Studios: Ubisoft and Tencent Announce New Developer for Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft and Tencent have announced the formation of a new subsidiary that will lead the development of new titles for the Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Assassin’s Creed franchises.

The announcement confirms plans by both companies to create a subsidiary earlier this year after a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent into the new Ubisoft spin-off company.

Vantage Studios will take the lead on future games in iconic Ubisoft franchises with what Ubisoft claims will unite the IPs “under the banner of a shared DNA and development expertise.”

What Is Vantage Studios?

In its announcement, Ubisoft revealed Vantage Studios will streamline the approach to development on future Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Assassin’s Creed titles, delivering a “shorter pathway between gathering and implementing player feedback, while still offering the benefit of Ubisoft’s expertise, services, tools, and tech.”

The new company is believed to consist of around 2,300 employees from Ubisoft studios based in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia, combining the expertise of experienced developers to create what Ubisoft hopes is their biggest games.

Impact on Major Franchises

It is hoped by Ubisoft and Tencent, who own 25% of it, that the creation of Vantage Studios will allow developers working on future games to do so with more creative freedom and a “hands-on control over the games they are building.”

Furthermore, Vantage Studios will focus on the “expansion” of Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and Rainbow Six. Potentially, that also includes expanding into other media, as Ubisoft describes Vantage Studios as a “creative house” rather than a game developer.

Ubisoft’s Future

For players, this new subsidiary signals an exciting new venture for some of the world’s most iconic video game franchises. For Ubisoft, Vantage Studios offers a chance to move past a challenging period with a renewed focus and strategy.

Conclusion

Ubisoft has announced the launch of Vantage Studios, a new subsidiary in partnership with Tencent. The new company will be responsible for leading and shaping the future of iconic Ubisoft IPs, such as Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Assassin’s Creed. What do you think about the announcement?
