In the world of Until Dawn, every choice has a consequence. Unfortunately for the developers at Ballistic Moon, the decision to remake a 2015 cult classic at a $59.99 premium retail price seems to have led to the ultimate “bad ending.

Following a string of layoffs that began before the game even hit shelves, official UK government filings now confirm that the studio has been formally dissolved.

The news marks a quiet, unceremonious end for a team comprised of industry veterans who aimed to modernize the cinematic slasher for a new generation.

The End of Ballistic Moon: What Went Wrong?

Despite the pedigree of the original slasher hit, Ballistic Moon’s Until Dawn remake struggled to find its footing. Many players balked at the official storefront markup, questioning why a graphical overhaul demanded a premium retail price.

The reality is that high production costs and lukewarm sales created a death spiral. While the leap to Unreal Engine 5 looked great in marketing, it wasn’t enough to sustain a standalone studio in today’s volatile market.
