Back to the Future: A Game in Development for the 40th Anniversary

With 2025 marking the 40th anniversary of the first film in the series, some exciting news is on the way. In fact, in an exclusive interview with cleveland.com, we have an interview with co-creator Bob Gale.

He eagerly shared some of what’s in store for the anniversary. A documentary on the “making of” the musical will start this week. He also surprisingly alluded to a new video game, talking about the future of the series. Over 13 years after the beloved Telltale game.

Back to the Future: The History of the Games

The history of Back to the Future video games is not widely known, mainly due to numerous projects mostly limited to the genres and platforms of the time. In fact, with the launch of the first film in 1985, there was also a game released the same year. A sidescrolling adventure that came to Amstrad CMC and Commodore 64, and continued until 1993 with the SNES version.

The feedback was generally mixed, with many games failing to capture the essence of the films. In 2010, the video game adaptation by Telltale Games arrived. A series of episodic games in the typical Telltale style, made with input from Bob Gale himself. It concluded in 2011 with the fifth episode, arriving on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC, receiving positive fan reception.

In Conclusion

So, some fantastic news for the big fans of the series, who will once again get to relive Marty and Doc’s adventures through time. The game will also bring a few small narrative updates thanks to the co-creator’s involvement.

Although it’s unlikely we’ll see its release in 2025, with Back to the Future: The Game by Telltale keeping us company, removed from Steam with Telltale Games’ closure, but revived in 2019 with only a few licenses. But thanks to Allkeyshop, you can still find the latest CD Keys!
