Paradox Interactive has apologized for the Stellaris 4.0 update, which it says “fell short.” The update, titled “Phoenix,” launched alongside the BioGenesis DLC on May 5, which has suffered from crashes and bugs since its release.

Stellaris 4.0 was released “a little bit on fire,” says game director Stephen “Eladrin” Muray, who says developer Paradox is working on fixing the bugs that riddle it and the recently launched BioGenesis DLC.
BioGenesis currently sits on a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam, with players complaining of a lack of polish, missing content, and broken features. While Muray and some players agree that the expansion and 4.0 update is a major improvement for the 4X strategy game, it may have been released too soon.
What Went Wrong in Update 4.0?
Launched alongside the BioGenesis DLC as part of Season 9, Stellaris 4.0, also known as “Phoenix” was set to overhaul many of the game’s systems and features, but although the plan was to “revamp and clean the most critical bugs” leading up to release, Muray, says in the latest developer diary that they “fell short of that goal.”
Muray admits that while some wanted to delay the update until it was “in better shape,” he decided to release it early to avoid the summer holidays, so the team could provide “full support” once the update went live. He finishes by saying he is sorry for “disappointing” fans.
Paradox’s Response and Promised Fixes
Since its launch on May 5, Paradox has been dropping daily fixes, and Muray tells fans that the team is “committed to continuing to fix things until the 4.0 release is in the state it needs to be in.”
In the latest patch, Paradox addressed various crashes and broken features, with balance tweaks and improved game stability and performance. In upcoming patches, the developer wants to fix multiplayer desyncs, various bugs, and once again implement performance improvements. The whole statement and patch notes are available in the developer diary.
What Players Should Expect Next
Paradox is committed to working on fixes to improve Stellaris 4.0, with the BioGenesis DLC being hailed as a game changer for the strategy game despite its performance issues. While the DLC is getting poor feedback on Steam, that will likely change as daily hotfixes and changes go live.
The 4.0 patch is an exciting development for the game, and Muray is “incredibly proud” of what the team has achieved. You can join in on the excitement by purchasing Stellaris and its DLCs at a reduced price through our store pages linked below.

Heard this patch had brought more bugs than content/fixes lol... A big polish before the next DLC would be appreciated I guess
