Starfield: Shattered Space Release Window Narrowed Down

Surprisingly, Todd Howard, the executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios, appeared in a recent interview for the Kinda Funny Games channel on 29th April 2024. Where they discussed his involvement in the Fallout TV show, how the games are doing, and especially new news regarding Starfield, including the anticipated DLC Shattered Space.

Shattered Space: The New Features of Starfield’s DLC

Shattered Space, the upcoming expansion DLC for Starfield, is a game content that fans of Bethesda’s space adventure are eagerly awaiting. This is because not only is Shattered Space expected to further expand the Starfield experience, but it should also bring some changes to gameplay and game variety, two points often criticized in Starfield, as well as missing features and community requests. In this interview with Kinda Funny Games on Youtube, Todd speaks about Shattered Space, albeit a bit vague. In fact, he talks about:

  • New display modes for Console, likely a 40fps mode
  • City Maps
  • New features for spaceship creation
  • New Game Options and Gameplay Additions
  • And many other surprises

In short, Todd seems very reserved about Shattered Space, but confirms a release window for this first expansion DLC for Bethesda’s space-themed game.

Shattered Space Release Date and What does the Future hold for Starfield

The date promised by Bethesda is expected towards the end of 2024, with an important clarification regarding adjusting the base version of Starfield before the DLC launch. This is certainly a very considered choice by the team, as although positively received and with fewer major bugs than usual, Starfield has not been the true success that the team, and especially the community, hoped for.

Todd Howard about Fallout 76 and Starfield at Kinda Funny Games

Many of the criticisms come from the fact that as a new IP, Starfield lacks the charm and nostalgia that titles like Fallout and Elder Scrolls can rely on, receiving more direct criticism than usual. This perhaps combined with an evident streamlining of story and features, a symptom already perceived in Fallout 4 and exponentially in 76, like simple dialogues, and very linear quests. Not to mention the many unfulfilled promises that Starfield was supposed to deliver, at least at launch. With Shattered Space, Bethesda’s team is intent on a true second launch of Starfield, demonstrating that they still believe in the potential of the title. Official news will have to be awaited on this matter, hoping that the DLC will be a second wind for Starfield.
