Square Enix Reveals Octopath Traveler 0 City Size Limitations Per Platform

Yes, you read that right. It’s not just resolution and frame rate that varies depending on your chosen hardware but also the size of your city. This new limit not only will cause a difference in player experience but exposes where your console is in comparison with other platforms.
Octopath Traveler 0 City Size Limitation
Octopath Traveler 0 is an upcoming standalone prequel to the much beloved series. It will officially launch on December 4th for PC, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles.
While we still have a few months to go before the game unlocks, it is already causing a stir in the community. Normally, only maximum frame rate and resolution are dictated by the chosen hardware/platform. But in the case of Octopath Traveler 0, the actual gameplay does too, specifically the Town Building Placement Limit.
In a platform specs recently released by Square Enix, it shows that to get the most out of the game, a Playstation 5 or an Xbox Series X is needed. The resolution reaches 3840 x 2160 of up to 120fps, and most importantly, a 500 maximum building limit. In contrast (and with a big gap) to the “lowest”, the Switch version maxes at 1280 x 720 res at 30fps with a 250 building limit.

If that’s not bad enough for Nintendo users, its successor Switch 2 didn’t do so well either. If you have already upgraded, the current Nintendo console can only reach 1920 x 1080 res of up to 60fps with a building limit of 400, same as the PS4. While the Xbox Series S also shares the max resolution, it can reach up to 120fps and has a building limit of 500.
Notably visible is the absence of Xbox One. Unfortunately the game will not launch on this platform. So for fans of the series, it’s better to have a Switch 2 than an Xbox One.
As for PC users, as usual, the resolution and frame rate will depend on your rig but the building limit is the highest at 500. More on this and the actual PC system requirements will be revealed as we come closer to launch date.
