SEGA recently released a new trailer for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and while it covers a lot, the key moment was the reveal of the Blue Star Extreme Gear at the end. Originally featured in Sonic Riders, this hoverboard is a recognizable piece of Sonic’s racing history. Its inclusion adds a nostalgic bonus for longtime fans and a new option for customization. It will be interesting too how the hoverboard would look and feel on the latest consoles.

The Blue Star will be available as free DLC starting launch day but only for players with a SEGA Account. If you don’t have one, you can sign up now. The game launches on September 25, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Then Spetmber 26 for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. An upgrade path to Switch 2 has also been confirmed, though a release date for that version is still unannounced.
