Project Gorgon leaves early access after nearly 8 years, officially launching version 1.0 on January 28 with no progress wipes for players.

After nearly eight years in early access, Project Gorgon is finally reaching its full release. One of the most beloved and quietly influential MMOs out there is officially launching version 1.0 on January 28th, closing a very long chapter of development.

Project Gorgon Prepares for Massive PC Launch

Project Gorgon originally launched on Early Access for PC via Steam on March 13, 2018. The studio behind it, Elder Game, never tried to chase trends or compete with big-budget MMOs. Instead, it focused on deep systems, player freedom, and a design philosophy that felt closer to older-school online RPGs.

Over the years, the game expanded with new skills, new zones, higher level caps, quality-of-life improvements, and constant balance changes. And because of that, it slowly but steadily gained a dedicated active community which of course was over the moon with the news of the game reaching its full version. To date, the game is often compared to titles like RuneScape, Black Desert, and Albion Online, especially when it comes to its skill-based progression and sandbox-style freedom.

One thing that sets Project Gorgon apart from many long-running early access games is how it is handling its full release. While wipes are common when an MMO leaves early access, the developers decided two years ago that there would be no progress wipe. Every character, item, and achievement earned over the years will carry over into version 1.0, which was a major relief for longtime players who invested hundreds or even thousands of hours into the game.

For anyone curious but not yet committed, Project Gorgon’s Steam demo is still up. It includes the full tutorial on the beginner island and access to most of the content in Serbule and Serbule Hills. There is no time limit on the demo but content-wise, it’s roughly 18 hours to do absolutely everything.
