A new datamine suggests Monster Hunter Wilds may be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 version, but fans are split over performance and feasibility.

Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2 has been circulating for quite some time now, ever since the console’s release. The rumor never really disappeared, even as players continue to ask Capcom for stability fixes and performance improvements across existing platforms. Instead of focusing solely on those issues, a new leak suggests Capcom may already be planning its next move. A Switch 2 port.

New Datamine Sparks Switch 2 Speculation Again

A recent post on the MonsterHunterLeaks subreddit points to new evidence found in the game’s latest update. Fans digging through the files discovered a new line in the code reading “via.store.Native.ns2UpgradeEdition.” Then, the ns2 appears again in platform specific processing, which caught attention because it suggests some level of platform targeting rather than placeholder text.

This, of course, does not confirm a Nintendo Switch 2 version but it does seem to suggest it strongly. And since Monster Hunter is not new to Nintendo consoles, it’s not at all impossible to assume so.

Monster Hunter Fans Weigh-in on the Leak

Community reaction has been sharply divided. Some fans immediately dismissed the idea, arguing that Wilds struggles to maintain stable performance even on PC, making a Switch 2 port unrealistic. Others counter that a Switch 2 version would be built around reduced settings and a 30fps target, which could be achievable with proper optimization.

The debate quickly shifted toward hardware comparisons. Some pointed out that even powerful handheld PCs struggle to run Wilds smoothly at low internal resolutions, suggesting the Switch 2 would require massive compromises or heavy engine rework. Others argued that Wilds already runs on Xbox Series S and PC handhelds, which means a specifically optimized Switch 2 version could be playable, even if visual quality takes a hit.

There is also disagreement over CPU limitations. Some believe the Switch 2 would fall too far behind Series S in CPU heavy scenarios, forcing Capcom to strip features or create a standalone version without cross play. Others argue the gap is not that extreme and that targeting Switch 2 could actually push better optimization across all platforms.

Another recurring point is that Capcom is almost certainly working on a separate portable Monster Hunter title already. Under that logic, a late Switch 2 port of Wilds may not make sense if a dedicated portable entry is planned within a few years.

Capcom has not commented and there is still no official Nintendo Switch 2 announcement tied to Monster Hunter Wilds. Until that happens, the community remains split between those who think the port is inevitable and those who think it would be too compromised to be worth releasing.

Either way, this is not a rumor that is going away anytime soon.
