Dead Island 3 Teased by Dambuster Studios as Dead Island 2 Celebrates 20 Million Players
Dead Island 2 has officially reached 20 million players, and Dambuster Studios is already hinting at what’s next with a tease for Dead Island 3 after the franchise turned 14 years old.
Despite its rough development period, which lasted almost a decade, Dead Island 2 launched in April 2023 and has since been a massive success with fans, reaching over 20 million players in two years.
The recent Haus and SoLA expansions show that there is still life in the first-person co-op horror, and developer Dambuster Studios is already hinting at the next entry.
Dead Island 2 Hits 20 Million Players
In a letter to fans on Steam, Dambuster Studios expressed delight that Dead Island 2 had reached 20 million players across PC and consoles since its launch on April 21, 2023.
Slayers continue to soak themselves in the blood-drenched streets of Hell-A, where the most recent expansion, SoLA, added new enemies, weapons, locations, and a new story to the zombie action-adventure game.
Tease for Dead Island 3
In its recent community post, Dambuster hinted at a possible Dead Island 3, stating: “Celebrating 14 years of gore and guts PLUS 20 million Slayers in Dead Island 2. From Banoi to HELL-A…and the next outbreak is already brewing.”
While it isn’t an outright confirmation, another Dead Island title seems highly likely, with the developer adding at the end of the post: “For now, the details stay under wraps, the outbreak is far from over…”
What Fans Can Expect
Dead Island is one of my all-time favorite games, and Dead Island 2 builds upon its success with more action, gore, and an impressive open world to explore. Dead Island 3 will add a new map, new weapons, additional zombie types, and an improved co-op experience.
There’s also likely to be improvements to graphics and enhanced features that build upon the series’ immersive environments and action-packed storylines.

Dead Island is a decent franchise, the first couple of games are very outdated at the moment but Dead Island 2 is quite recent. Not very outstanding or innovative but considering the development hell it went through, it's sort of impressive how free of issues it was at release. Definitely found some success and love from fans and I'm interested to see where Dead Island 3 is taking us and how much bloodier can it get.
OMG! Dead Island 2 is an excellent game, and the dlcs too, love it, so they making a new one is a great announcement, it says the outbreak is far from over, so it will be zombies the same in the new game. The only doubt is the location, DI games have the central theme of the holidays beach location, but they may change that and no longer have zombies in swimsuits XD
