About Last Word

Last Word is an unconventional JRPG where you use your words as weapons developed by Twelve Tiles, photographer Whitty Gawship attends a prestigious get together at the residence of professor Chet Chatters. Members of the party are veteran conversationalists, each trying to gain subtle power over one another. The mood shifts however when Whitty and the others discover that the professor can get the “Last Word” in every conversation using his miraculous invention. Collect topics by gossiping to unlock mysteries. Drink wine, the night is young and no one can leave until the devious Professor Chatter says so!

Last Word shows that you don’t need a towering sword or a 15-minute summoning sequence to create an exciting battle system–sometimes it just takes a sharp script and an even sharper tongue.

Overall, I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the game and liked its 16-bit JRPG meets Clue aesthetics. However, the story, and particularly the dialog just don’t live up to the game’s interesting premise. It’s the kind of game whose shortcomings will probably try the patience of the average gamer, but if you’re looking for something different and can give it a little slack for the experience, then you’ll probably have some fun getting in the last word.
