What Is Going Wrong With BioShock 4?

In its report, Bloomberg says the remaining Cloud Chamber team was told in a meeting that the developer has to “become more agile and efficient” and that its narrative in particular has to be “revamped in the coming months.”

2K Games is dissatisfied with the game’s current direction, moving to remove key personnel as it ensures the game hits expectations internally and with fans.

Studio Shake-Up and Development Impact

Responding to the report, a 2K Games spokesperson told Bloomberg that it is “working closely with leadership at the studio” after removing Kelley Gilmore as studio head and Hogarth de la Plante as creative director.

Despite the changes, 2K Games remains “fully committed” and believes it has a “good game,” but wants to turn it into a “great one.”

What’s Next for BioShock Fans?

BioShock Infinite remains the last entry in the series, launching in 2013. Cloud Chamber’s upcoming game was announced in 2019, and still remains without a release date, despite beginning its development after the release of Infinite.

In the meantime, series creator Ken Levine is working on Judas, his new BioShock-looking sci-fi game, which is expected to launch before the end of March 2026.

Conclusion

2K Games has shaken up the leadership team at Cloud Chamber Studios, the developer working on BioShock 4. The changes were made after 2K reportedly became unhappy with the game’s direction, in particular its narrative. What do you think about the studio changes? Do you think it will benefit the game and series moving forward?
