Battle Aces: The Official Announcement of RTS Cancellation
Just over a month after the last Beta, the Uncapped Games team announced the end of development for Battle Aces. This announcement came on May 24, 2025 via Steam and the team’s social media pages. The team communicated that Battle Aces did not gain the necessary support to keep the project alive.
An ambitious project for the team led by David Kim, which after almost a year since the official announcement, closes its doors without an official launch. The team thanks the community for their support over the past year.
Today, with deep regret, we are announcing that development on Battle Aces has come to an end.
Creating Battle Aces has been tremendously rewarding and we are grateful for the passion and support from our community. Unfortunately, the returns from early testing were not… — Uncapped Games (@UncappedGames) May 23, 2025
Battle Aces and What Led to the Game’s Fall
The closure of Battle Aces was certainly a bad surprise for the game’s fans. A game designed as a 1v1 or 2v2 PvP experience with automatic resource gathering. Offering a purely action-packed experience with 8 units, each customizable before the match. The main criticism leading to the game’s downfall was the decision to focus entirely on PvP gameplay
One of the greatest obstacles for the RTS genre is that many fans of the genre seek a rich single-player experience. While online play remains strong for games with a long-standing community such as Age of Empires, Total War, and Starcraft II. This was certainly not helped by the choice of a live-service monetization model with cosmetic items. And some balancing issues from early feedback.
In Conclusion
Battle Aces had strong potential as an RTS, but it also offered a challenging proposition in a genre that’s no longer as popular in its “pure” form. Especially considering the expectations set by Tencent. Many players are now looking for more classic experiences or those with strong management components, as well as single-player experiences.
