Arc Raiders, the game that successfully entered the online PvP arena, hasn’t just infiltrated the market as it turns out, it also briefly infiltrated players’ Discord DMs. A computer engineer discovered the issue, exposed it publicly, and within hours the developers stepped in to resolve it with a hotfix. What a start of the month for Raiders.
Arc Raiders Bug Recorded Players’ Discord DMs
Security concerns and hacks are nothing new to the gaming community. Incidents ranging from data leaks to exploit-driven vulnerabilities show up in multiplayer games more often than anyone would like. In fact, it’s still fresh from our minds, the recent incidents with Rainbow Six Siege.

And that’s exactly what happened with Arc Raiders. Computer engineer Timothy Meadows recently exposed that the game was secretly logging private Discord DMs and storing them locally on a user’s PC. Alongside the messages, the log files also contained Discord authentication tokens required to access those conversations.
According to Meadows’ report, the game’s Discord integration logged incoming Discord events directly into plaintext game log files. In practice, this meant that private DM conversations could end up written into those logs without the player realizing it. The issue stemmed from how the Discord Social SDK was implemented, where logging captured far more data than necessary.
The problem began circulating online,quickly after Meadows shared his findings. As the report gained traction, Embark was quick to acknowledge the issue and deployed a hotfix. A response addressing the bug was shared on the game’s official Discord and through Insider Gaming.
The good news is that the issue has already been resolved. The hotfix disables the problematic logging behavior and Embark has also begun auditing the integration to prevent similar situations in the future.
It’s also important to clarify that this only affected users who enabled Discord integration in the game. According to Embark, none of the logged information was transmitted outside players’ computers, and the company says it never reviewed or stored those messages on its own servers.
Still, even if the data never left players’ machines, the situation highlights why these kinds of security issues matter. Logging private messages without the user’s knowledge is a serious oversight. What if Meadows never found it? What if another bug caused those locally stored files to be sent outside the PC?
Those questions are hypothetical for now but they show why independent researchers and community members play such a huge role in keeping the gaming ecosystem healthy. Bugs like this can happen to any game and any developer. The difference often comes down to how quickly they are found and fixed.
