Developer 1047 Games claims Steam Charts don’t measure fun. Responding to critics who point out its dangerously low player count, the developer says the Steam numbers “don’t show the full picture.”


Splitgate 2 had an underwhelming launch in June 2025, before 1047 Games announced it was placing it back into beta and shutting down the original game as it looked to relaunch it as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded in December 2025.

Despite its relaunch, the FPS has struggled to meet the hype of the original Splitgate, only reaching around 1,000 daily concurrent players on Steam. However, 1047 Games has hit back at critics, stating that the number only reflects “one platform, at one given moment.”

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded: The Identity Crisis that Killed the Hype

The journey from “Halo meets Portal” to Arena Reloaded has been a masterclass in community exhaustion. By announcing Splitgate 2 and essentially abandoning the original, then circling back with rebranding, 1047 Games fractured its own brand equity.

Gamers don’t like feeling like they are playing a “dead” game. The rebranding feels less like a fresh start and more like a desperate attempt to keep the lights on while the sequel stays in the oven. Loyalty has its limits, and the player base is seemingly reaching theirs.

Steam Charts vs. 1047 Games: The Math of Survival

The developer’s defensive stance ignores a hard reality: the math of matchmaking. You can’t have “fun” when you’re stuck in a queue for five minutes only to be dropped into a lobby filled with bots.

Low concurrent numbers lead to a death spiral. Fewer players mean wider skill gaps in matches, which frustrates newcomers and veterans alike. If the “Make FPS Great Again” rhetoric doesn’t translate into active lobbies, it’s just noise.

Steam Charts measure server longevity and the financial viability of a free-to-play model. Without a healthy population, the shop doesn’t sell skins, the servers don’t get upgrades, and the “fun” eventually vanishes when the plug gets pulled.

Is Splitgate: Arena Reloaded Worth Your Time?

While the core portal mechanics remain brilliant, the current ecosystem is too fragile to recommend as a primary “main” game. Massive discounts on other shooters make the “free” price tag of a dying lobby look expensive in terms of wasted time.
