Full Circle layoffs: What’s next for the future of skate.?

The dream of Skate 4 has finally materialized as the free-to-play skate., but the road to San Vansterdam just hit a major bump, as developer Full Circle announces layoffs to focus on the long-term future of the skateboarding game.

When EA finally greenlit skate., the promise was a “forever game, “a living, breathing San Vansterdam that would evolve with its players.

However, the recent announcement from developer Full Circle regarding a studio “reshaping” has shifted the conversation from kickflips to corporate restructuring.

The technical brilliance of the physics engine is undeniable, yet the stability of the hands behind the controller has never felt more uncertain.

The San Vansterdam Shift: Reshaping for the Long Haul

In an official update, the studio clarified the rationale behind these departures, stating, “We’re reshaping Full Circle to better support skate.’s long-term future and focus the team on the things that matter most to you – and making those things great.”

This “reshaping” is a corporate euphemism for layoffs, a move intended to streamline the developer as it transitions from the heavy lifting of initial creation to the marathon of live-service maintenance.

For the player, it could be beneficial as Full Circle promises to “move faster, listen more closely, and deliver consistently for all of you. Our commitment to skate., and to the millions of players who believe in it, remains strong.”

A Risky Kickflip for EA?

Technically, skate. is a triumph of movement and style. The physics feel right, and the social hubs are buzzing with potential.

The skating is brilliant, but the business side is currently pulling a sketchy manual. It’s worth playing for free.
