Splitgate 2 is set to head back into beta after developer 1047 Games admitted it had “rushed” the FPS. The studio is shutting down servers for the original Splitgate and laying off an unannounced number of staff.
The game will remain playable and receive updates as the developer works hard to get it ready for a relaunch in 2026.
Why Is Splitgate 2 Returning to Beta?
In a long post on Steam, 1047 Games told fans it had “ambitious goals with Splitgate 2,” but it had “rushed certain features, made some boneheaded mistakes, and most importantly, we didn’t give you the polished, portal-filled mayhem you fell in love with.”
By placing it once again into beta, 1047 Games says it will focus on combining “the DNA of the first game with the best improvements from the second.”
Layoffs at 1047 Games
To focus on the hard work ahead, 1047 Games says it has made the “incredibly difficult decision to reduce certain roles” and shift resources. By shutting down the servers for the OG Splitgate, the developer says it will save hundreds of thousands of dollars that will help “prioritize” the team and reduce staff layoffs.
The studio has promised severance and job placement support to those affected and says it is committed to “help them” and “bring them back” when they are able.
What the 2026 Relaunch Means for Players
Splitgate 2 is again going into beta, but it will remain playable, with 1047 Games promising fixes and high-priority updates along with the launch of Chapter 3.
During the beta, the developer will host more playtests, surveys, and says it will “listen” to what the players want. When the game relaunches in 2026, it will include a reworked progression system, more portals, classic game modes, and simplified monetization.
