After nearly a year in Early Access, the fantasy extraction RPG Eldergarde, formerly known as Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, has officially entered 1.0, bringing with it a new class, PvE mode, and dozens of balance changes.

Developer Notorious Studios, led by former World of Warcraft veterans, has launched Eldegarde 1.0 on Steam. Version 1.0 introduces a new PvE mode, higher rewards for PvP, and the new Paladin class.
By rebranding from Legacy: Steel & Sorcery and launching with a dedicated PvE mode, the developers are signaling a massive pivot designed to rescue the game from the “niche death spiral” that plagues so many extraction shooters.
The full release of the “mini MMO action RPG also comes with dozens of balance changes and various other tweaks that make it the perfect time for veteran and new players to jump into its fantasy world.

Eldegarde: A Strategic Evolution Complete
The headline feature is undoubtedly the PvE Mode, a safe haven that allows players to learn map intricacies and combat mechanics without the constant threat of getting ganked by high-level players. This transforms the game from a stress-inducing extraction gauntlet into what the developers are now calling a “Mini-MMO.”
Beyond the safety rails, the 1.0 patch adds to the class roster while tightening combat with balance tweaks to weapons and abilities. The new Paladin offers a fresh new way to play, whether it’s using the sword and shield combo or smashing enemies with the Greathammer.
The 1.0 update also removes the Safe feature in the Lodge, ensuring everyone returning and entering Eldegarde for the first time will start on “equal footing.” Notorious Studios has admitted it may return to the Safe in a future season, “depending on player feedback.”

When it launched as Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, Notorious Studios’ vision was singular and unforgiving: a hardcore PvPvE experience where “loot and scoop” was the only law. It was promising but alienating.
The original roadmap focused heavily on competitive integrity and high-stakes tension. However, the feedback loop from Early Access made it clear that players loved the combat (which feels distinctly like classic WoW arena battles) but hated the griefing.
The 1.0 build proves that Notorious Studios listened. They sacrificed the “hardcore purity” of their initial vision to save the game’s population. By adding PvE dungeons and safe progression, they have delivered on the promise of a “fantasy extraction” game while fixing the fatal flaw of the genre: accessibility.
If you held off buying during development to avoid bugs, your patience paid off. This is the definitive version of the game.
