A remake of Devil May Cry could be coming after creator Hideki Kamiya revealed he would love to make it “from the ground up” using modern technology.

Kamiya was speaking on his YouTub channel, which was translated by VGC, where he was asked how he would remake DMC before saying: “I’ll come with something.”

On his YouTube channel, Kamiya said that with “today’s technology and game design approach,” he would remake Devil May Cry from the ground up, and that “if the time comes,” he would come up with something as “that’s what I do,” he said.

First released way back in August 2001 for the PS2, Kamiya believes Devil May Cry looks its age, revealing that “once in a while, I catch gameplay clips and think, ‘yeah, this really does feel like a 24-year-old game design.'” He also spoke to Capcom in the video, asking them to “leave it to me.”

Why Fans Are Excited About a Possible DMC Remake

Since its launch in 2001, Devil May Cry has been a staple of the action genre, inspiring countless games and helping to define the genre for over two decades. It has recently caught the attention again, thanks to the new Netflix series, which premiered on April 3, 2025, following the original protagonist Dante.

The last DMC entry was Devil May Cry 5, which was released in 2019 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The original trilogy of games has not seen any love since the Devil May Cry: HD Collection launched in 2012, with the collection a remaster rather than a full remake of the games.

Could a Remake Actually Happen?

Capcom has not announced a DMC remake, and there is no indication of one in the works, with Hideki Kamiya simply pointing out that he would consider it.

With recent successes of popular remakes like Resident Evil 4, which Capcom announced had become the fastest-selling entry in the franchise just a couple of weeks ago, the developer and publisher may see a DMC remake as a risk worth taking.

Conclusion

Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya has said he would love to do a remake of the original game. Would you like to see a modern version of the original DMC? Share your thoughts in the comments.
