Dead Island 2 is a 2023 action RPG, sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island and the third major installment in the Dead Island series.

The game is set in Los Angeles California, which has been overrun by zombies. Here, you play as one of six survivors who must fight their way through the city in order to escape.

Dead Island 2 is an open world game so you can explore a variety of locations including Hollywood, Venice Beach, and Beverly Hills. Remember Zombieland the movie? Now you can play as one of them! Well, kind of.

Dead Island 2 was released on April 21, 2023 for PC (exclusive to Epic Game Store), Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. After one year from launch, its exclusivity with Epic Games Store will end and will be released on Steam on April 22.



Which platforms to play Dead Island 2 for free?

With not much, actually barely, marketing promotions beforehand and no announcement from Game Pass monthly free games, Dead Island 2 caught everyone by surprise with its inclusion in the lineup.

The tropical zombie-slaying adventure game can now be played for free by Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, but only on console as the PC rights are still exclusive to Epic Games Store. This exclusivity will end in April so Game Pass PC subscribers can maybe hope for the same access.

This surprise free access to Game Pass subscribers may be a marketing (well lack of) stunt, or it could be the platform’s answer to PS Plus and Dead Island 2 collaboration.

On February 17, 2024, Dead Island official X account announced that the game has a free 2-hour trial for Playstation Plus Premium members.
