Those Who Remain is a psychological horror survival game developed by Camel 101 set in a sleepy town of Dormont, a town spiralling from the fabric of reality, warped in darkness and the deeds of the citizen who lives inside. Step into the shoes of Edward, confront the horrors reflected by the darkness and survive the night!

• Explore the encroaching darkness by manipulating the sources of light you come across clearing paths in Dormont. In order to survive you will need to stay in the light by any means.
• Move in between two interconnected dimensions, the town Dormont and a strange alternate reality where you solve thought-provoking puzzles.
• Condemn or reprieve the lost souls of the townspeople, and their cursed trove of secrets. Make tough morale decisions determining the fate of Edward through multiple different endings.

Those Who Remain Reviews

Overall, Those Who Remain is fine. Just fine. It’s not terrible and doesn’t deserve to be hate-played or mocked or anything like that. Edward is a fine protagonist, the eerie atmosphere starts out strong and devolves to fine, and the gameplay is fine. I’m sure a lot of work went into this experience (I say this a lot, but I mean it), but unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anything keeping this game safe from the gaping maw of irrelevance.

Those Who Remain isn’t something I’d call a bad game, but every single thing it does has been done better somewhere else. The story is mostly okay, even if the explanation that comes at the end is the most generic one imaginable. I’m not going to spoil it, but if you think, “What are the most common reasons for things to go bad in horror stories?” then the explanation will probably be on your list.

Those Who Remain, in particular, is about self-reflection in forgiveness and makes you realize you can judge someone on their mistakes yet never seem to consider the sins you’ve carried out. Don’t like all that psychology? The good news is, that ideology is placed in the background and at the core is a great creepy adventure with interesting monsters and clever puzzles.
