The Long Gate is a circuitry-themed puzzle game developed by David Shaw; you play as an archeologist about to embark on a journey to explore an ancient cavern and learn the secrets behind the mysterious devices littering the place and their even more enigmatic creators behind them. All Puzzles in the game are simplified versions of real-life science concepts of Boolean Algebra and Logic gates. You will need to learn the basic principles in each puzzle to solve them but you do not need technical knowledge of computer science to finish the game but if you do have any interest in the field, you will find the game interesting too.

• There are three main circuit type puzzles in the game the Analog, digital, and 4-bit Quantum circuity verified by scientists from D-Wave Systems, the world’s first quantum computing company.
• The levels and puzzles for the game can be completed in any order so if you get stuck on a specific puzzle you can just walk away and do something else, many might have more than one possible solution for you to discover.
• Mastering a specific circuit type might lead you to keys allowing you to access new secret areas.
• If you do get stuck and find it hard to progress, the game has an optional hints mode in the settings menu.

While I firmly believe that there is value in The Long Gate, it is hard to recommend the Switch be the place you play it. It’s unfortunate as there doesn’t appear to be any reason the Switch version should run this badly. The Switch is an excellent platform for this type of game; unfortunately, the same engineering effort that went into the puzzle design doesn’t appear to have made it to the port itself.
