Hammerwatch II is a hack-and-slash action RPG game developed by Crackshell, gather your party and go on a journey beyond the dungeons of Castle Hammerwatch. Blight the horrible dragon and his army have succeeded in their sinister plot to overthrow the king and bring destruction across the kingdom of Herian. Aid King Roland’s resistance by battling beasts, and destroying hordes of undead whilst also helping villagers along the way.
With so many new RPG games this year, it’s easy to see how Hammerwatch II could go unnoticed. While it might not look different, I challenge anyone into the genre to spend two hours playing and not want to play more. If the developer can fix a few minor issues, like group loot in multiplayer games, this will hopefully find some legs to go the distance I feel it can.
Hammerwatch 2 is a delightful enough RPG romp held back by some issues that seem to cling stubbornly to the era that inspired it. A better map and more fast travel options would go a long way. As it stands it’s a lot of fun for fans of the genre, but it doesn’t do a lot to stand out in today’s market.
