About this game

Bullet Soul combines traditional shooting game concept with a sizable portion of contemporary bullet hell and dazzling pyrotechnics. Play through a variety of modes, all of which are intended to entice genre beginners while also testing seasoned players who want to achieve ever-higher scores.

 
  • Four distinct modes, including both of the Xbox 360’s original DLC’s
  • On Normal Mode, there are 3 different ships, a hidden second loop, and a true final monster.
  • Practice in Bancho Mode to incrementally raise your score.
  • In Caravan Mode, compete against the world’s top scores and the time.
  • Version B adds a fourth ship and improves gameplay.
  • Leaderboards with friend filters and mode and ship divisions
  • X/Y scaling and smoothing are present in the tate/vertical screen mode.

All in all BULLET SOUL is a great little shooter, it’s challenging and the ghost bullet gimmick indirectly changes how you need to play to earn high scores. The game is solidly put together and any fan of bullet hell shooters will definitely want this in their collection.

I felt compelled to beat Bullet Soul several times over after my first completion, bolstered by the loud audio (including cheeky catchphrases) and bumpin’ soundtrack helmed by legendary composer Kenji Ito. It’s not the most challenging game around (especially if you opt for co-op, as no concessions are made to make it tougher), but it’s another welcome indie that’s made its way into my shmup folder on Steam.
