Black Myth: Wukong is the action RPG Fantasy from Game Science. The game is inspired by the famous 16th-century novel Journey to the West by Wú Chéng’ēn. It brings a darker version of the famous mythical story. Plus, it marks the debut title for the Chinese team at Game Science.

Black Myth: Wukong – Xbox Release Confirmed for July

At the beginning of 2025, we got some details from Game Science’s Director and CEO, Feng Ji, about the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong. A highly requested version by the community, which the Director described as facing great challenges due to the porting. The porting has been especially difficult due to the limited hardware of Series S.

With a surprise announcement today, June 6, 2025, the team finally confirms the release of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X/S. The game is set to release on August 20, 2025, almost a year after its PC and PS5 release. Pre-orders for the game will begin on June 18, 2025, with a 20% discount across all platforms.

Black Myth: Wukong – Series S Problem or Exclusivity?

A very positive news for Xbox fans who can now finally play the acclaimed Wukong on their Microsoft platform. But there’s definitely a hotly debated issue in the community. With the release on Series X/S happening a year after the PC and PS5 launches. Especially after the discussions in January about the limitations and challenges of porting the game on the more modest hardware of Series S.

The game from Game Science has seen strong sales in the Chinese market as well, with over 5 million copies sold on PS5, leading to an incredible boost in console sales. This has led many to question whether the issue is specifically related to Series S or if it’s actually a Playstation exclusivity issue, as Xbox has always struggled to break into the Eastern gaming market.
