Activision Blizzard Investors Vote Against Microsoft Merger

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard may yet fail to go through as shareholders look to vote against the merger.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard for almost $69 billion.

The deal will see it become the most expensive acquisition ever in the industry and add games like Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Hearthstone to Microsoft’s portfolio.

It had looked like the deal would go through without much of a problem, but in a letter sent on 14 April, the SOC Investment Group urged shareholders to vote against the merger.

According to the SOC Investment Group, the deal “fails to value acquisition and its future earnings potential properly.”

The letter highlights the significant failings of Activision Blizzard’s board to address the “sexual harassment crisis” and the “incompetent handling” of it from the company.

The SOC Investment Group points to the poor handling of sexual harassment allegations due to delays in product releases and a falling share price.

Because of those two chief reasons and the fact Bobby Kotic is yet to step down, the investment group believes the $69 billion is too low and opportunistic.
