Nintendo just dropped a weekend bombshell that nobody saw coming. In a rare move, the gaming giant confirmed a surprise Nintendo Direct is set for this Sunday, January 25.

If you had weekend plans, you might want to cancel them. The “Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct” promises to reveal the final details of the anticipated animated sequel before its Spring 2026 release.


Why The Galaxy Movie Direct is Different

Usually, Nintendo sticks to midweek slots for their major announcements. A Sunday broadcast is almost unheard of, signaling that they have something massive to share that couldn’t wait.

The stream kicks off at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm UK / 3pm CET. Set your alarms, because spoilers will flood social media the second the stream ends.

Nintendo previously confirmed the film hits theaters on April 3, 2026, in the US (April 1st in EU). This Direct will likely serve as the final hype train, showcasing the “deep cuts” and character reveals teased back in November.


Rosalina, Switch 2, and The Leaks

The English announcement focused heavily on the film’s cast, confirming Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. The plot thickens with Bowser Jr. attempting a prison break to rescue his father, who remains trapped after the first movie.

But Rosalina isn’t just hitting the big screen—she is coming to the next-gen console. Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + All at Bellabel Park will infact launch on March 26. This enhanced version is exclusive to the Switch 2 and finally makes Rosalina a playable character. Even better? A second player can control Luma for a new co-op experience.

With the movie landing in April and this game edition dropping in March, Nintendo is clearly orchestrating a massive cross-media takeover. If you haven’t played the original Wonder yet, now is the time to catch up before the next-gen upgrade arrives.
