Age of Empires II Definitive Edition is the ultimate version of the famous and iconic RTS from Microsoft. This remastered version of the timeless classic from 1999-2000. This continued the development that started with the HD version supported since 2013.

Age of Empires II DE: Alexander the Great Stars in the New Chronicles DLC
After the huge success of the first DLC in the Chronicles series for Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition, we’ve got some awesome new info. The combined team for the series has made a surprise announcement about the arrival of the second Chronicles DLC. Titled Chronicles – Alexander the Great, focusing on the legendary Macedonian King.
The DLC is set to launch on 14 October 2025 on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. To go with this addition to the ancient Chronicles experience, the team released a dedicated trailer. It shows the deeds of the Macedonian King through an animated mosaic, with a showcase of the units, civilizations, and missions that await us.
AoE II DE: What’s New in the Chronicles: Alexander the Great DLC
So, the new Chronicles DLC will be mainly focused on Alexander. It features an extensive game campaign where we’ll follow the exploits of the iconic historical figure. From his youth in Persia, to his expeditions in Southeast Asia and his return. Specifically, it offers:
- Game Campaign: An extensive campaign with a whopping 18 Scenarios. 16 are dedicated to Alexander and 2 to the Puru and Thracian civilizations. The story is told with an animated mosaic style. And it’s a campaign with lots of custom units that you’ll unlock with each conquest.
- 3 New Civilizations: The main stars will be the Macedonians, with powerful armies of Phalanx and Cavalry, and Fortified Outposts. The Thracians can generate gold in combat and have the swift Rhomphaia warriors. And the Puru, a civilization from Punjab with armies of Elephants and long-range Archers.
It’s bringing a new, fun, and extensive campaign that’s extremely well-crafted, both in its narrative and visuals. This is the second DLC in the Chronicles series, following the huge success of Battle for Greece. Considered by many as one of the best Expansions for AoE 2 in recent years. Especially for those who don’t just play competitively.
