10. OUTWARD

In developing Outward, Nine Dots Studio was aware that having an online multiplayer component is a staple for most successful games of this era but never neglected local co-op. As a result, the open-world survival game offers some of the best local co-op experiences yet. Whether or not you are online, you may embark on unforgettable adventures alone or with your friends. However, remain vigilant because offline play does not mean the absence of perils.

9. THE ESCAPISTS 2

The Escapists 2 is a very fun strategy multiplayer game, published and developed by Team17 Digital Limited. As the name of the game suggests, the goal is to escape. More specifically, the goal is to escape some of the most secure prisons in the world. In doing so, you will craft, steal, brawl, and incite riots. One of the best things is internet connection is not necessary if players are to indulge in the said activities. Currently, the game sports one of the best local co-op components.

8. MAGICKA

From an early development stage, it was obvious that Arrowhead Game Studios’ Magicka was something truly special. This was made apparent when an early unfinished version was named Game of the Year at the Swedish Game Awards 2008. Now that the game is polished, there is no surprise it has been able to do as well as it has. In addition, the developers persist to make tweaks and changes guided by a dedicated player base which helps preserve its relevance among the best local co-op titles.

7. OVERCOOKED 2

Having an amazing local co-op appears to be a recurring theme for games published and developed by Team17 Digital Limited. Overcooked 2 is one such title that provides a lovely local co-op experience whether on or offline. As you may have guessed, Overcooked 2 is a sequel to Overcooked which didn’t have an online feature but was well-embraced regardless. When all is taken into consideration it totally makes sense, because local co-op is at the core of the game’s development.

6. WIZARD OF LEGEND

Wizard of Legend is a fast-paced dungeon crawler with rogue-like elements with which players are very much pleased. As long as you are not one who minds having a shared or split-screen while combating foes with your friends, you will be absent a quarrel with this game. Along with the local co-op experience, players report having a blast with the emphasized dynamic magical combat which enables them to chain spells together forming devastating combinations.

5. PUMMEL PARTY

Pummel Party is one of the most fun casual games out now. Developer Rebuilt Games dubs it as “a friendship-destroying multiplayer party game.” The game features many game modes hosted on beautifully-designed unique board game maps. Pummel Party excels when there are multiple players so the developers were wise in creating an online component. However, it is the local co-op experience that is most revered. The game is available on PC through Steam.

4. BATTLEBLOCK THEATER

BattleBlock Theater is an incredibly hilarious multiplayer game developed by The Behemoth. You can play in single player, but fans argue that the local co-op mode is where endless fun commences. Said fans have left overwhelmingly positive reviews in support of the title. In the game, your duty is to free your friends and save Hatty Hattington. Employ your amazing platforming skills as you battle your way through a mysterious theatre where highly technological felines reside.

3. HUMAN FALL FLAT

Human Fall Flat offers a quirky open-ended physics-based puzzle platformer experience. It is wacky yet it has the capacity to satisfy a player’s craving for complexity and intellect-intensive gameplay. Your goal is to find the exit which is pretty straightforward to say, but addictively wit-demanding and tedious. One of the best things about the title is the fact that players don’t have to attempt the puzzling challenges alone as the game comes with both online and local co-op modes.

2. ENTER THE GUNGEON

Enter the Gungeon is a favourite among fans who are looking for a really fun local co-op experience. There is currently no online component to the title and the reviews from the fans have been overwhelmingly positive which indicates that the online component is not missed. Having the game available exclusively locally gives the developers an opportunity to perfect it, which is reflective in the warm reception it received. Enter the Gungeon is available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

1. CUPHEAD

When Cuphead surfaced in September of 2017 it was one of the top sought-after games for content creators and steamers alike. The game is very fun and challenging as every boss comes equipped with its own arsenal of unique attacks and abilities. When bosses are vanquished, players are awarded upgraded abilities to help them scale with an increased difficulty which makes the game feel that much more rewarding. Now it sits atop AllKeyShop’s top ten list as the best game for local cooperative play.
