Is XDefiant Delayed?

XDefiant, the upcoming free-to-play arena shooter from Ubisoft, has been officially delayed, with the developer and publisher refusing to announce an exact release date after it was supposed to launch by March 31, the end of this financial quarter.

The delay to the FPS was first reported by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who said delays over the last couple of years is down to “the executive’s pursuit of trying to copy Call of Duty, rather than building their own game.”

Speaking on X, however, XDefiant executive producer Mark Rubin denied the company is trying to copy CoD and that reports of them attempting to make a Call of Duty clone are untrue. Instead, he said, “The whole point of the delay was to lock the game and just put in bug fixes and the new updated netcode and social systems.”

With no release date in sight, Ubisoft has promised another short test that players should keep an eye out for as more details will be released in the coming weeks. All-in-all, it’s yet another blow to a game that many who tested it in the last beta praised it for its gunplay, level design, and fast-paced PvP shooter action.
