Xbox Game Pass has added another indie adventure to its catalog and this one is all about a duck trying to save his family. Dodo Duckie is now available to subscribers across Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass, just three months after its original release. If you’re in the mood for a short, wholesome platformer with puzzles, exploration, and plenty of silly moments, this might be worth a look.
What is Dodo Duckie About?
Dodo Duckie’s premise is delightfully absurd. You play as Dodo, a clumsy but courageous young duck whose peaceful farm life is interrupted when a giant alien beam abducts his entire chicken family. Armed with nothing but his wits and a magical cap provided by a chill capybara named Capie, Dodo sets out across a series of bizarre and adorable planets to bring his kin home. What starts as a silly rescue mission quickly reveals itself as a surprisingly profound journey of self-discovery.
The core mechanic that makes this adventure special is the ability to seamlessly flip between a classic 2D side-scrolling view and a fully 3D third-person perspective. Swapping dimensions on the fly reveals hidden platforms, secret routes, and entirely new ways to conquer the game’s spatial puzzles. It forces you to look at every strange little planet from multiple angles to find your way forward.
Navigating these alien worlds is a joy in itself. You will waddle, splash, glide over gaps, and flop your way past obstacles while collecting shiny stardust to buy new hats from Capie’s shop. For moments when the puzzles get a bit tricky or if you just want to cause a little mischief, there is a dedicated quack button to scare off aliens and assert your dominance.
Dodo Duckie Is Now Available on Xbox Game Pass
Dodo Duckie is the second title from this month’s Game Pass wave 2 lineup which kicked off yesterday with Sandustry for Premium members. Having only launched three months ago, the game is one of the fresher titles in the catalog, apart from of course the day-one launches.
The game has also received a New Game+ mode since launch giving players another reason to return after finishing the main adventure. The story itself is fairly short, taking around four hours to finish all eight levels. But those looking to complete everything can expect closer to six hours of playtime.
Dodo Duckie might not be the biggest name in the Game Pass catalog nor probably on the top of anyone’s playlist but it has earned a positive reception from players especially those looking for a cozy palette cleanser to break up heavy gaming sessions.
The game is available now on PC and Xbox Series X|S, while PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions have been announced for later this year.
