The third day of February brings the second Xbox Game Pass drop of the month, and it adds another iconic title from one of gaming’s most recognizable franchises. Final Fantasy II is now available for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass members.

Final Fantasy II Joins Xbox Game Pass Today

Final Fantasy II brings players back to one of the franchise’s earliest and most experimental chapters, expanding on the foundations laid by the original game with a darker narrative and a unique progression system that rewards how you fight rather than traditional leveling.

The game officially joined Xbox Game Pass today, giving subscribers another classic RPG to dive into. It is available to Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass members and can be played across Xbox Series X|S, PC, and cloud gaming.

This addition follows last month’s arrival of the original Final Fantasy on the service, making Final Fantasy II the second title from the early era of the series to enter the Game Pass library.

While there has been no prior confirmation from Microsoft or Square Enix, it now seems more likely than not that the remaining titles from the Final Fantasy I–VI Pixel Remaster collection will also make their way to Game Pass. If the current pattern holds, players can expect one new entry to be added each month.

This drop marks the last announced title for the month and since we’re on the first Tuesday of the month, we’ll probably get the official wave 1 lineup later today.

Final Fantasy II is a beautifully refreshed 2D remaster of the classic RPG that builds on the original’s legacy with a darker, more emotional story and bold mechanical ideas. Set during a brutal war between the Palamecian Empire and the rebel army, the game follows four orphaned youths who cross paths with memorable allies like the white wizard Minwu, Prince Gordon of Kashuan, and the pirate Leila as they fight against tyranny and fate itself. Instead of traditional leveling, Final Fantasy II features a distinctive skill-based progression system where characters grow stronger based on how they fight and use magic, encouraging experimentation and strategic play.

The Pixel Remaster enhances the experience with updated pixel art supervised by original artist Kazuko Shibuya, a faithfully rearranged soundtrack overseen by composer Nobuo Uematsu, and modern quality-of-life features that preserve the charm of the original while making it more accessible than ever.
