The Revelations Update and World Corruption 2.0
The upcoming 0.9 patch for Witchfire, officially titled The Revelations Update, introduces significant structural shifts to the core gameplay loop. Developer The Astronauts is rolling out these details systematically rather than releasing a surprise patch.
A major addition in version 0.9 is a brand-new endgame Vault located in the Outskirts. Unlike previous instances, players cannot simply use brute force to enter this hidden area. Access requires passing a specific, unannounced test first.
The update also fundamentally redesigns the game’s threat escalation with World Corruption 2.0. The studio noted in their official development blog that the previous corruption system felt overly punishing and passive.
Under the new model, the environment reacts directly to player greed and aggression. Forcing open chests, collecting cursed treasures, or yielding to new power temptations will leave traces that actively corrupt the map.
Players can use cleansing stations to reverse this effect. However, failing the purification process triggers an immediate Calamity.

Will Witchfire Add Co-Op or Multiplayer Modes?
The Astronauts has definitively confirmed that Witchfire is and will permanently remain a single-player experience. The studio officially stated that adding cooperative, PvP, or PvPvE multiplayer modes at this late stage of Early Access would require years of additional work, entirely derailing their release schedule.
The development team has faced continuous community requests for multiplayer integration since the game’s initial reveal. However, with the Early Access period nearing its end, the studio is locking in its focus.
Changing the core architecture to support network infrastructure is no longer viable. The team acknowledged that while future projects might explore multiplayer concepts, Witchfire will exclusively serve solo players.
Will Witchfire Use Generative AI for Development?
Witchfire does not and will never use generative AI in its development pipeline. The studio leadership officially confirmed their strict anti-AI stance ahead of the 1.0 launch, emphasizing that their artistic process requires a human connection that algorithms cannot replicate.
Studio co-founder Adrian Chmielarz and lead technical artist Andrzej Poznanski have been highly vocal about maintaining artistic integrity. Poznanski compared using generative AI to a Michelin-starred chef ordering fast food for their guests, noting that players expect a unique signature dish rather than a statistical average of existing meals.
The team insists that human-to-human communication through art is paramount. While some developers acknowledge AI’s growing footprint in the industry, The Astronauts remains committed to paying human artists to manually design and sketch assets.

Localization, Accessibility, and the 1.0 Launch
As Witchfire approaches its highly anticipated 1.0 release later this year, the studio is actively expanding the game’s global footprint. The title will soon receive localizations for 14 different languages, including Italian, French, and Japanese.
To ensure high-quality translations, the team hired professional localization specialists while also opening a community quality assurance program. This allows dedicated players to provide direct feedback on terminology and context.
Regarding player progression, the developers are engineering solutions to avoid forcing a save file wipe when version 1.0 launches. While starting a fresh campaign will be recommended to experience the fully optimized narrative and progression curve, the choice will remain entirely up to the user.
Finally, the studio is implementing new accessibility options to accommodate a wider audience. The developers stressed that while they want to remove unnecessary mechanical handicaps, the intrinsic, demanding difficulty of Witchfire will remain completely intact.
