Windows Central Lays Off Entire Gaming Team Except for Jez Corden

Windows Central has laid off its entire gaming team except Jez, with the changes confirmed by staff and discussed publicly.

It’s not a surprise and it’s probably cliche by now but there’s no other way to say it, the mass layoff continues. Considering the purge that was last year, one might think that there would be a breather. But competition doesn’t wait on anyone especially in the tech (and gaming) world.

The latest to see the axe? The folks over at Window Central, particularly the gaming team.

By now, thousands of employees in the gaming sector have lost jobs mainly because of investment shifts to AI. But whether it’s the reason for Windows Central too, who knows. The only fact we know now is that their entire gaming team was let go except for Jez Corden.

At first, people weren’t believing the headlines because, well the entire team?! But the source is Jez himself as he shared it during the Xbox Two Podcast three days ago. At mark 29:34, he said that Future PLC, Windows Central parent company, has laid off the entire gaming team, only leaving him.

But that’s not to say he’ll be doing absolutely all the work of WC’s gaming arm. The layoffs affected all full-time employees but Jez will have support from freelancers.

The layoff was also confirmed by one of the affected employees, Rebecca Spear, who is Window Central’s News and Gaming Editor. She shared on LinkedIn that her nine-year tenure with the company has come to an end and that she is now “unexpectedly looking for work.”

It’s uncertain how many people were affected as it’s apparently not only Windows Central. According to Jez in the same podcast, every brand of Future was affected which means there could be layoffs across GamesRadar and PC Gamer too.
