Developer Fatshark is finally pushing Rejects out of the Hive’s protective shell and into the irradiated wastes of Atoma Prime with the new Warhammer 40:000: Darktide free update, Beyond the Hive, which introduces the new game mode, Expeditions.

For three years in Warhammer 40K: Darktide, we’ve fought floor by floor, clearing the same grimdark corridors of the Hive City.

But the Beyond the Hive update, launching March 17, 2026, changes the fundamental DNA of the first-person, co-op action game.

The centerpiece of this expansion is Expeditions, a non-linear, extraction-style mode that swaps scripted paths for tactical greed. You’ll navigate a sprawling, open-ended grid on the planet’s surface, hunting for Tech-Remnants while a literal ticking clock of radiation poisoning eats away at your health bar.

Expeditions: Darktide’s Evolution into Extraction?

The new Expeditions mode replaces linear paths with an open-ended grid. You aren’t just walking to an extraction point, but hunting for Tech-Remnants while fighting a constant radiation poisoning timer.

Straying too far from Deadside Sanctuaries is a death sentence. These safe zones are the only places to catch your breath, but lingering too long attracts the horde. It’s a tense game of chicken with the environment itself.
