War Mongrels is an isometric real-time tactics game set on the Eastern Front during World War II.
It follows the dark stories of two Wehrmacht soldiers who desert their squad and recruit their own guerilla army to fight back against the advancing Nazi forces.
The gameplay itself is brutal, with every decision meaning life or death.
There are two distinct ways to play the game, either using the standard strategic planning mode or by taking a more hands-on approach and controlling your soldiers directly.
The planning mode allows you to strategize and queue actions before executing your plan and is a good way to play if you want a slower approach to the challenges presented.
However, if you want a more intense experience, you can take direct control of your soldiers and shoot your way through enemy forces in a twin-stick-style shooter.
You can, of course, take advantage of both styles as you plan and execute split-second actions before taking full control and fighting your way out of trouble when things don’t quite go to plan.
The storyline is heavily inspired by the events that happened during the war on the Eastern Front, with dates, locations, weapons, and uniforms all painstakingly recreated for accuracy.
War has never been so violent and heart-pounding as it is in War Mongrels, and the good news is that you can experience it all in two-player co-op.
Every decision and action you take will require communication and careful planning, as you use a mixture of stealth and force within changing environments.
Every character in your outfit has their own unique personality, background, and skills that can potentially lead to new tactical options as the story progresses.
War Mongrels releases for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Series S, and PC on October 19.
