You can’t hide anything from the internet these days. Just as we’re all waiting for Nintendo to make their next move, a voice actress might have accidentally dropped the biggest RPG bomb of 2026.
If you thought the series was on pause after the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition in 2025, you might want to sit down for this one.

The Leak: “KOS-MOS” Returns in 2026
It looks like the cat—or rather, the Blade—is out of the bag. Sharp-eyed fans on Weibo and Famiboards spotted a juicy update on the Spotlight profile of voice actress Caitlin Thorburn.
For a brief moment, her resume listed a role in a “Xenoblade Chronicles” project developed by Nintendo, with a release window of 2026. The character? None other than KOS-MOS.
This isn’t just a random name drop. Thorburn voiced KOS-MOS (along with Nim and T-elos) in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Spotlight is a serious platform for professional actors, so this isn’t your average rumor. While the entry has already been removed, the damage is done.
Rumor: Caitlin Thorburn's Spotlight profile updated referencing a Xenoblade Chronicles game coming in 2026.

Switch 2: Remaster or Sequel?
So, what does this actually mean? Let’s look at the options. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Definitive Edition is the safest bet. The original 2017 game is a masterpiece, but let’s be honest—it struggled on the original Switch. Handheld mode often took a nosedive visually. A 4K-ready, 60fps remaster for the Switch 2 would be a dream for fans.
While a Xenoblade Chronicles 4 as a new mainline game isn’t impossible, but it feels a bit early. However, seeing KOS-MOS listed specifically suggests her character plays a key role.
Why a Return to Alrest Matters
If this is indeed a return to Alrest, it’s a huge win for RPG fans.
- The Grind is Real: Getting KOS-MOS in the original game was notoriously difficult thanks to Gacha mechanics. A remaster could rebalance this.
- Performance Boost: The community’s top request has always been better performance.
- Next-Gen Visuals: If this is a 2026 title for Nintendo’s next hardware, we’re talking about instant load times and crisp visuals.
Verdict: Is the Hype Real?
We likely won’t have to wait long to find out. Rumors are swirling that a Nintendo Direct is dropping in February (perhaps even this week). If Monolith Soft is ready to show off what they’ve been working on, this would be the perfect stage.
Is it time to get excited? Absolutely. Even if it’s “just” a remaster, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with modern performance is practically a new game in itself.
What do you think—is this a simple remaster, or is Monolith Soft preparing for a massive crossover sequel?
