Steam Deck OLED White: The Official Announcement

The news comes directly from Valve, which shared it on their blog and social channels on 12 November 2024. Here, they announced the launch of a Steam Deck OLED in a Limited Edition in White. This new color variant stands in direct contrast to the classic Black version. It has Gray Buttons and an Orange Power Button.

The big update is that this version will be globally available (in all regions where the Steam Deck can be purchased). Plus, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan will be able to purchase it in physical stores, as well as online, through KOMODO. This contrasts with the first Limited Edition in semi-transparent black, which was limited to the USA and Canada.

As for the technical specs of this White version, they are the same as the OLED 1TB version. This means not only the benefits of an OLED screen, but also an internal hardware revision of the Steam Deck. It’s more efficient, lighter, and sometimes even delivers a few extra frames thanks to faster RAM.

Regarding the Display, Valve has not added any new information. The Steam Deck OLED offers two screen variants: one from Samsung and one from BOE. Some prefer one over the other due to image quality. However, it seems BOE may no longer be a supplier for Valve, potentially making this the last stock of their screens.

Steam Deck OLED White Edition: Availability and Saving Tips

As announced by the team, Steam Deck OLED in Limited White Edition will be available starting 18 November 2024 at 3:00 PM PST / 19 November at 12:00 AM CET. For the first time, Australia will also have access. Valve reminds that the White OLED will be available in limited quantities based on the Region. Showing a price tag of $679 / 719€ / £599.

This is a price increase of $30 / £30 and 40€ over the standard OLED 1TB version. With less than a week to go, this edition is likely to sell out fast! It’s a fantastic opportunity for those who have been hoping for an official White color.
