The game takes place in New York City where a smallpox epidemic causes millions of deaths, and the rest of humanity takes refuge in fear. A team called The Division is activated and its agents are called to fight and find the cause of this deadly epidemic.

Unlike some games like Arma 3 or Gears of Wars 4, The Division takes place exclusively in the city of New York, specifically in Manhattan. It may not possible for you to leave this zone, but the game is done very well that player experience makes up for the lack of a huge environment.
Contrary to The Last of Us or Fallout 4, this game is not a game of survival as most players put it. It is also not a survival horror game, although contacting an infection from the disease could have been an important point to add in the game as there is no monster or mutant to attack you.
That’s my personal opinion about it. At no time did I feel it was possible to be contaminated and to die of it but that does not bind me.
The games that come closest to a game like The Division are games like Watch Dogs 2 or Saints Row 4 where it is possible to perform side quests and move forward in the main plot.
Most of the time you have a base which allows you to acquire or upgrade your weapons and equipment. You can collect these as you progress into the game and equip them directly, or once they are improved.
