CD Projekt Red finally revealed the official modding tool for The Witcher 3 months after announcing that mod support was coming. REDkit is a tool to help you customize and expand your game beyond what CDPR has created.
The REDkit Steam page says, “The Witcher 3 REDkit offers you the same powerful tools as the CD PROJEKT RED developers, giving you the freedom to take your ideas to the next level and transform The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt into a playground for your imagination.”
In plain language, REDkit allows you to create new quests, develop new storylines, alter the terrain, and even create entirely new animations.
Anyone who has used mods or developed their own for games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim will know just how powerful they can be and how long they can expand a game’s lifespan – something no doubt CD Projekt Red will hope with The Witcher 3.
The Witcher 3 REDkit is available for PC only with those wishing to try it out needing to request access on the modding tool’s Steam page.
As for using the game’s Steam Workshop beta, anyone can do so by clicking on The Witcher 3 in their library and scrolling down to “workshop_test” in the drop-down menu. Both REDkit and Steam Workshop support should go live later this year.
