The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Set for September Release

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a story-focused stealth game from Daedalic Entertainment set to launch on September 1st.

Daedalic Entertainment has recently announced the release date for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, a stealth-based game which tells the untold story of Gollum from JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Players will take the role of Gollum who also has a split personality, Sméagol. The game’s story is set in the first chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring, during the time when Gollum lost his precious ring to Bilbo Baggins. Driven by his desire to get back what he’d lost, he decided to leave Misty Mountain to embark on a perilous journey through the dungeons of Barad-dûr to the realm of the Wood Elves in the Bleak Forest.

The journey is dangerous, and yes, Gollum will have to face challenges along the way. Although he may not be the best fighter there is, there’s still a possibility for him to take down those who threaten him in creative and villainous ways. He doesn’t have weapons, but he can take advantage of his being sneaky, or use distractions to make his way across locations.

Players will also need to make a lot of decisions, and choose which of the personalities will have the upper hand: Gollum’s darker side, or Sméagol who’s kindhearted and sticks to reason.

Are SmÃ©agol and Gollum the same person?

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available starting September 1, 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. It will also launch on the Nintendo Switch sometime after its initial release.
