Rebel Wolves shows the gameplay of their Dark Fantasy RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker for the first time

The Blood of Dawnwalker (BoD) is a dark fantasy action RPG developed by Rebel Wolves, a Polish development team consisting of several former CD Projekt Red members. In particular, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the Director of The Witcher 3 and Creative Director of Cyberpunk 2077. The team is creating an ambitious project published in collaboration with Bandai Namco.

Set in a fantasy Europe during the 14th century amid the Black Plague. In a dark era, creatures of the night are ready for their conquest. The story follows a young man deciding whether to accept the darkness or stay human. The game is set to release in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Blood of Dawnwalker: Rebel Wolves reveals the Gameplay

With the Game Trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker shown during the Xbox Game Showcase on June 8th, 2025, Rebel Wolves and Bandai bring a new reveal, showing for the first time the gameplay of this highly anticipated dark fantasy RPG from the new team formed by ex-CDPR members. The showcase, which lasted 21 minutes, was revealed on June 21st, 2025.

The reveal includes new game details, with Design Director Daniel Sadowski introducing us to the world of BoD and a pre-beta gameplay version of the game. The showcase focused mainly on the gameplay mechanics, with us following Coen on a mid-game quest.

 

The Blood of Dawnwalker: What are the new gameplay details?

The gameplay showcase will see us follow Coen on his journey to the Svartrau Cathedral, the capital and largest city of Vale Sangora. Along the way, we’ll experience combat with directional mechanics for strikes, as well as Coen’s vampiric abilities. The new features revealed confirm:

  • Create your story: BoD will have us accompany Coen on a mission to save his family, with a variety of choices and consequences that deeply affect the plot. Giving players the freedom to create and live their own story.
  • Consequences: An important mechanic is the choices we make during the adventure. Every action we take can have deep consequences in the game world, from conflicts to new choices and options during the quest.
  • Combat and Abilities: An action gameplay style where we use directional attacks, as well as various active skills for damage, support, or tactics. There are 3 Skill Trees for Human, Vampiric, or Hybrid skills.
  • Day and Night: Coen will have access to different abilities, with a set of expanded vampiric skills during the Night. The time of day in which we undertake certain missions will lead to different choices and consequences.

A game that shows a strong DNA from The Witcher 3, but also brings something new and exciting. Many players have been satisfied with the atmosphere and the choices available during the adventure. Thanks to the detailed and clear explanations from Sadowski about the various mechanics. The main criticisms concern some animations that need improvement and the restrictive camera view.

 

In Conclusion

Based on what we’ve seen so far, The Blood of Dawnwalker has certainly impressed many RPG Fantasy fans. With an interesting game world and, especially, many choices with real consequences on the storyline.
