The Long Road to 1.4.5
Announced back in November 2022, this update faced multiple delays. Initially targeted for 2023, the schedule slipped as the scope expanded. Re-Logic prioritized team health over a holiday release, avoiding “crunch” during Christmas week to ensure a polished launch.
The studio also cited cross-platform submission times as a key factor. Unlike previous staggered launches, the team aimed for a simultaneous global release. Getting approvals from console first-parties pushed the window from December 2025 into late January.

1.4.5: The Major Features
This update brings more than just bug fixes. The headline addition is the Dead Cells crossover, introducing the “Beheaded” vanity set, hanging flasks, and weapons like “The Flint” and “The Killing Deck“.
Pocketpair’s Palworld also joins the fray. Players can summon a Digtoise that mines through blocks, though it remains unclear if this functions strictly as a pet or a minion.
Fan requests dominate the weapon changes. Summoners receive a massive arsenal of new whips, including Moon Lord, Stardust, and Corruption variants. Melee users get the “Axearang”—an axe-boomerang hybrid that chops trees—and throwable Phaseblades that stick into terrain.
Terraria Seeds and World Gen
The update revolutionizes world generation. A new Skyblock Seed spawns players on a floating island with limited resources, forcing creative survival.
A dedicated “Seeds Menu” now allows mixing secret world seeds. Combining specific seeds triggers unique effects, such as a “Vampire Mode” where players burn in sunlight unless holding an umbrella.
New transformation mounts also change traversal. Players can morph into a Velociraptor, a Rat, or a Fairy. A new roller skate mount enables grinding on minecart tracks, adding kinetic speed to underground exploration.
Quality of Life in Terraria 1.4.5
Re-Logic continues to respect player time. The crafting UI gets a total overhaul, mirroring the Journey Mode duplication menu for easier navigation. You can now craft using items from all nearby chests without opening them individually.
Mobile players see significant control improvements. The touch editor now supports multi-touch toggles and copy-pasting configurations across loadouts.
Crossplay, however, is absent at launch. Re-Logic confirmed it will arrive “some time after 1.4.5,” keeping the focus strictly on content for now.
Verdict: Terraria Remains the Survival King
Terraria remains the gold standard for value in gaming. Nearing its 15th anniversary, the game costs less than a lunch combo and still receives massive, free expansions like 1.4.5.
If you haven’t played since Journey’s End, this update offers a completely fresh experience. The sheer volume of new items, combined with the Skyblock mode, essentially creates a sequel’s worth of content for zero extra dollars.
Will you try the new Vampire seed or jump straight into the Dead Cells content?
