Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is the remastered version of the management RTS from FireFly Studios. A spin-off chapter of the main series, originally released in 2002. It offers tons of new additions and changes, with a chapter focused on the Crusades period in the Middle East.
It remains one of the most beloved chapters by fans, thanks to a major component of city building and management, integrated with tactical real-time siege gameplay. Today marks the long-awaited launch of Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition. The remastered version of the great medieval RTS classic from Firefly Studios. It brings enhanced graphics, but also numerous new features including game modes and new units. Debuting today:
- 15 July 2025 on PC at 8:00 am PDT / 11:00 am EDT / 17:00 CEST
A long-awaited launch that the team has accompanied with numerous videos. Among them, we have the Co-op Trailer from 9 June 2025 with a rather comedic tone. Here, Nick Tannahill and Sak Abdi (and a small cameo by creator Udwin) show us the new Co-op Mode. Where we can team up with a friend or with the AI in a new challenge.
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition – Key Gameplay Features
Crusader DE offers much more than just a graphically enhanced version of the classic RTS. In fact, the team decided to expand development by bringing many new features, balances, and also new units. Among the main new additions:
- New Units and Lords: With 8 new Bedouin units with unique abilities and traits. Not to mention new Lords with new strategies and tactics, bringing the launch roster to 20, with more to come.
- New Campaigns, Maps, and Trails: In addition to the 4 original campaigns, we’ll also have 2 new additional campaigns and a whopping 4 Sands of Time trails. Added to this are even larger maps with a limit of over 10,000 units.
- Steam Workshop and Leaderboards: Support for community mods integrated with Steam and Achievements. Also includes a Leaderboard and fixes for various bugs and exploits.
All this is accompanied by a restyling of textures and units in high definition. As well as the remaster of the soundtrack, complete with new recordings from the original voice actors. Not to mention the reveal of the Roadmap for the game. With the first update in Autumn full of free content and a Winter one, each accompanied by 1 DLC with new 2 AIs and Sand of Time Challenges apiece.
