Valve teased its new Steam Machines last November, and the hype is real. These Linux-powered PC-console hybrids promise to bridge the gap between desktop gaming and the living room. However, a Czech retailer may have just spoiled the surprise regarding the price tag, and it might hurt your wallet.
New findings from Smarty.cz suggest the upcoming hardware won’t be cheap. If these numbers hold up, budget-conscious gamers might need to rethink their plans for Spring 2026.

Steam Machine Price Leak: $900+ for Entry Level?
A eagle-eyed Reddit user spotted hidden pricing data on Smarty.cz for the Steam branded mini PC. While the storefront currently displays “Price Undetermined,” inspecting the page source reveals specific figures.
The leak suggests the 512GB model is listed at 19,826 CZK (roughly $835 or €820). The high-end 2TB version jumps to 22,305 CZK (approx. $925 or €920). These figures sit significantly higher than the standard $500 console price point gamers have grown accustomed to.
Firstly, I am Czech, so I have verified and it truly is in source code

Retailer Placeholders or Valve’s Reality?
Before you panic, remember how retail listings work. Stores like Smarty and Alza often use placeholder prices to prepare their backend systems. These numbers frequently include a “safety margin“—estimated here at around 20%—to protect the retailer against wholesale fluctuations.
Currently, Smarty.cz and Alza both show the product as “watch for availability” with no official public price. This mismatch between backend code and the public page strongly suggests these are provisional numbers, not Valve’s final MSRP.
How Component Shortages Affect Valve
Context matters here. Samsung co-CEO T.M. Roh recently warned about unprecedented memory shortages. The AI market is putting massive pressure on component supplies, driving up the cost of RAM and other critical parts.
Linus Tech Tips also estimated that building a machine with these specs today would cost around $910. With savings on big orders and a “pre AI-pocalypse” stock of memories, Valve might bring a final price closer to $700. But with the current component instability, the higher retailer estimates aren’t entirely baseless.
Verdict: Wait for the Official Steam Machine Price
Are these prices final? Likely not. They serve as a rough reference point for retailers modeling their margins. Valve seems to be targeting a Spring 2026 release, so official pricing should drop soon.
For now, the smart move is to treat these figures as a “worst-case scenario.” If you are planning to buy one, start saving, but don’t take these Czech listings as gospel just yet.
Would you pay $900 for a new Steam Machine, or is that a deal-breaker?

Hope it is indeed a placeholder, if it isn't ill have difficulty believing people will buy the Steam Machine. I really do think that the Steam Machine can cause a huge influx of console players to get into 'pc' gaming. I expect the Steam Machine to be around 600-700 otherwise I don't think too many people will purchase it.
