TV adaptations for Sony video game franchises God of War and Horizon have been confirmed, while a movie from the Gran Turismo franchise is reportedly in early development.
The God of War TV series was first announced in March, with Sony sealing the deal with The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins. This production will be streamed through Amazon, but a release window has not been announced yet.
Additionally, Netflix has secured the rights for the Horizon: Zero Dawn live action adaptation. Apart from this information, no other details about the project were shared.
Also, other news outlets previously reported that Gran Turismo will also be getting a TV adaptation, however, VGC clarified that it will actually be a movie adaptation. Sony is looking at signing Neill Blomkamp to direct the movie. His previous works include District 9, Elysium and Chappie.
Following the Uncharted movie’s theater debut and the upcoming release of The Last of Us TV series, it looks like Sony is banking on its video game franchises to expand their business. It looks like this strategy is currently working, as gamers look forward to seeing their favorite games’ stories being told through live action.
It may take a long time for the God of War and Horizon series, as well as the Gran Turismo movie to be completed, but as always we’ll keep you posted with more details as they come.
