Sony is reportedly considering its multi-platform strategy, with claims that it could keep its larger IPs as PlayStation-exclusive titles or delay their PC release for several years.

This new rumor will disappoint fans if true, as Sony has only recently begun launching its major titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn on PC after exclusivity periods.
The report comes from Jez Coden, who revealed on the XB2 podcast that sources told him that Sony is “pulling back from PC” with its major single-player PlayStation games.
Sony’s Return to Console Exclusivity Windows
While gamers may not like it, the reason PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo keep major IPs like God of War, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Mario Kart World as console-exclusive for a time is to ensure fans see their console, such as the PS5, as the definitive, necessary hardware for launch-day access.
In recent years, Sony has staggered PC releases, maximizing two revenue streams by combining initial high-margin console sales with PC player revenue a year or two later.
If rumors about a strategy shift are true, it indicates that Sony is dissatisfied with its PC sales. A 2024 report revealed that PC ports accounted for only 3.4% of revenue from the PlayStation Store.
The Impact on PC Gaming: Losing PlayStation Titles
If Sony chooses to extend the exclusivity period for its PlayStation games or eliminate PC ports, PC players will lose access to titles like Uncharted and Ghost of Yōtei.
Disappointingly, the rumor also comes alongside Valve’s announcement of its upcoming Steam Machine, a console-inspired PC designed to play your Steam library and AAA titles, which could be a game-changer for the console and PC markets.
Sony’s Strategy Shift: What It Means for Future PlayStation Titles
In contrast to its biggest competitor, Sony’s change in strategy clearly contradicts Microsoft’s Game Pass model, where simulateanous PC and Xbox releases are fundamental to the subscription service’s value and appeal.
By shifting strategy, Sony appears to be prioritizing hadware sales and exclusivity over the potential of mult-platform availabilty and revenue.
Conclusion
Sony is considering extending the exclusivity window for its first-party single-player games or removing them from PC altogether, which ultimately leads us to the question: Does console exclusivity generate more long-term profit and success than immediate cross-platform reach, and do gamers care?

It will be very sad if they stop releasing Play Station games on PC, but maybe they discovered their games are not so special outside of their ecosystem of fans and PC market is the most saturated one, with dozens of games that easily outpass Sony games, for less money. I only wanted Horizon and already got it so thank you Sony.
